Version 0.6.67 Released!

Hello chums.

I haven’t been updating the website with the latest releases as the changes have been largely back-end “boring” things. Now we are getting to client and gameplay changes, it’s time to start logging everything properly again.

These changes are a somewhat random assortment of weekend tweeks that have been on my mind for some time. Some big, some small… the PVP changes are surely the most impactful.

This marks the start of a quite drastic gameplay shift in Mirage, where the world is less safe, dying means more, and rampant unjust killing is punished much more harshly. One of the biggest changes here is all PVP zones no longer having any safe areas on ladders, stairs and portals.

This means for the first time fights can span across vast areas, and makes the world past level 30 a significantly less safe place. In addition, the increased death % makes dying actually mean something to players below level 100, and it makes it worth it for players over level 100 to invest in charms.

I imagine these changes will be loved by some and hated by others, but please remember, this is just a small step forwards and there are many more to follow.

Fixes

  • Gender scrolls function correctly again
  • Moderator commands function once again with the correct permissions
  • Spells no longer appear usable on login if you do not have sufficient mana
  • Monsters no longer reward full exp to an attacker if engaged with less than full HP
  • Thorns no longer steals EXP from the wearer
  • Experience is not rewarded if mobs are killed purely with thorns damage
  • Various visual map tweaks
  • Level requirement labels removed from Ferry destinations

Additions

  • A new spider – the “Recluse” can be found in the deepest spider caves. It is comparable to the Firewyrm
  • The Angry Wizard will teleport you from Widow’s Plateau to Tartarus for 5 silver
  • The Bored Wizard will teleport you from Tartarus to Widow’s Plateau for 5 silver

Changes

  • Monster balance changes
    • Cyclopse
    • Cyclopse Hunter
    • All Shambler variants
    • Ice Slimes
    • Orcs
    • Orc Workers
  • Untargeting in pvp drops the target entirely
  • Tartarus is no longer a safe haven
  • Safe zones on stairs, ladders, and portals in all PVP to PVP areas have been removed
  • EXP loss on death adjusted:
    • Dying to monsters or being murdered = 12.5% (charm of fate)
    • Dying with a yellow or white skull = 25% (charm of loss)
    • Dying with a red skull = 50% (charm of war)
    • Dying with a black skull = 100%
  • Unjustified kill thresholds adjusted
    • Kills now last 7 days (up from 5)
    • Maximum number of unjust kills per week reduced to 7 (down from 10)
  • Many map changes to PVP areas to reduce obvious choke-points
  • The boat at the Orcish Lands has moved

It is my hope that the PVP oriented changes make the game world feel more vast and dangerous, and make social diplomacy a more important aspect of play. This will of course affect guilds and wars, so I will state here that the intention is absolutely to implement guild war features further down the line to facilitate large conflicts without the heavy “unjust” punishments.
